Speed Bumps

Speed bumps, speed ramps, speed humps or sleeping policemen (or whatever else you call them) encourage people who visit and work in your car park to drive sensibly, which helps to prevent accidents and saves lives. Available in a variety of designs and a range of sizes to suit the desired location, these speed bumps are also easy to install and come with everything you need.

Made of weatherproof rubber specifically designed for the tasks at hand, speed bumps typically come in contrasting black and yellow colours, which ensures drivers see them in advance and can adjust their speed accordingly. Unlike some other speed bumps, ours also have cats eye night reflectors built in, which always makes them highly visible.

Finally, our external cable protectors are also great for temporary speed barriers when you have cabling or hoses trailing across a road’s surface.

Which Speed Bump Do I Need?

When it comes to deciding which speed ramp you want to install in your car park or private road, you should first consider what kind of vehicles which will be driving over them and the speed you want people to travel.

50mm speed bumps are designed to be driven over at 10mph. Any faster and it’ll be very uncomfortable for people in the vehicle. Our 10mph speed bump is only designed for light use, so it’s perfect for areas most often used by cars and vans and not lorries or HGVs.

70mm speed bumps will slow vehicles down to 5mph. With a heavy-duty design, they’re great for any vehicle, including cars, vans and HGV lorries.

Where Shall I Install My Speed Bumps?

You’ll often find speed bumps in areas where vehicles and pedestrians interact, or areas where vehicles frequently drive too fast. These are often placed at entrances, on the approach to pedestrian crossings, and in car parks at hospitals, schools, offices, warehouses, factories, construction sites and other commercial and industrial premises.

You should also think about vehicles turning on speed bumps, as this causes discomfort to those in the car and will also damage the bumps over time.  Bumps should be placed away from junctions. Additionally, this reduces the likelihood of vehicles stalling.

All speed bump kits and sections from Simply Extinguishers also come with shield anchor bolts, as standard. This means you can secure fastening to all asphalt, tarmac and concrete surfaces, and in outdoor and indoor locations such as basements and multi-storey car parks.
