CO2 Fire Extinguisher
The Benefits of CO2 Fire Extinguishers
CO2 fire extinguishers are important today because they are safe for electrical fires. This makes them essential in a world filled with electronics and computers.
All CO2 fire extinguishers feature a black label, pull pin, valve, operating lever, and a special swivel horn. These features make them easy to identify when compared to other fire extinguishers.
These fire extinguishers contain pressurised contents that quickly put out fires. These fire extinguishers work by cooling down and neutralising high temperatures. Each unit also features illustrative instructions for ease of use.
What is a CO2 Extinguisher Used For?
Also known as carbon dioxide extinguishers, they are effective against different types of fire hazards. These include Class B, involving flammable liquid and gas, and electrical fires. CO2 extinguishers are suitable for homes, offices, server rooms, and areas housing electrical equipment.
How to Use a CO2 Fire Extinguisher
To use CO2 extinguishers, remove the safety pin, aim the frost-free horn directly at the base fire and compress the handle. This will release the contents and quickly cool down the flames.
After using your CO2 fire extinguisher, you must either refill or replace it with a new extinguisher.
Use your carbon dioxide fire extinguisher on any fire involving electrical equipment, such as computers, machinery, switchgear, etc.
CO2 fire extinguishers are effective against Class B fires. This includes flammable liquids such as petrol, diesel, oil, solvent, and fuel. However, DO NOT use CO2 extinguishers for cooking oils or fats (see Class F fire extinguishers).
Warning: The contents can cause frostbite, so it's important to not touch the horn or contents after use. It's important to know that CO2 gas displaces oxygen, so seek ventilation to avoid the risk of asphyxiation.
