Clean Gas Fire Extinguishers

Clean Agent Extinguishers are the perfect choice for areas containing sensitive equipment such as servers or computer rooms. Additionally, they protect data storage areas, aviation and telecom industries, and even the world of art and antiques. Clean agent fire extinguishers spray out a gas which causes absolutely no damage and leaves no residue. This makes them ideal for reducing collateral damage when tackling a fire.

Clean agent fire extinguishers are a versatile choice for many types of fires. They perform well against Class A, B, C, and electrical fires (although commonly only fire-rated for live electrics and flammable liquids). Usually available as an automatic fire extinguisher, which activates on its own, it's also available in the form of a traditional portable fire extinguisher.

What Is A Clean Agent Fire Extinguisher?

In 2003, the UK officially banned Halon fire extinguishers because of their impact on the ozone and global warming. Clean agent fire extinguishers filled the gap in the market in light of this change. Causing zero ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential), clean agent fire extinguishers are the world’s most advanced extinguishers. They offer effective fire protection while also being one of the most eco-friendly choices.

The main benefit of these extinguishers is that they are damage-free. Foam is messy to clean up, powder causes corrosion and makes a mess, and water will flood. However, clean agent fire extinguishers eliminate each of the aforementioned issues.

This makes this type of extinguisher ideal for sensitive equipment as it will cause no additional damage. This ensures that electrical equipment items are salvageable, including their data.

Do Clean Gas Fire Extinguishers Work?

Clean agent fire extinguishers essentially operate in a similar way to CO2 extinguishers. These units work by smothering and cooling flames, effectively extinguishing fires. Containing the suppressant as a liquid under pressure within the canister, it then turns to gas on discharge with the air.

This makes this type of extinguisher suitable for spraying through mesh or a grill. This advantage allows you to tackle a fire on the safe side of a closed door. This then prevents a rush of oxygen which would make the problem far worse.

Our clean agent fire extinguishers employ a coolant liquid known as FK-5-1-12. This works more effectively than its Halon predecessors, which used FE36 gases that negatively impact the ozone layer. This coolant discharges out as a liquid, quickly evaporates and puts out the flames by cooling the fire's source. The advantage of this coolant is that it leaves no residue behind, ensuring minimal damage.

What Type of Clean Agent Fire Extinguishers Should I Have?

We offer two types of clean agent fire extinguishers: hand-operated and automatic-release extinguishers. The choice between them depends on the specific location you wish to protect.

An automatic fire extinguisher is the optimal solution for unmanned areas. For areas like server cupboards or engine rooms, it's the perfect choice. It releases its contents without requiring human intervention, minimising the risk of aggravating the fire by opening a door. Moreover, it ensures an immediate response even outside working hours, reducing the potential harm to individuals.

However, it is also important to have portable fire extinguishers readily available. These alternatives prove useful if someone discovers a fire before the automatic extinguisher triggers.

Portable extinguishers allow for prompt action to potentially save valuable equipment. These extinguisher helps put out the fire should someone become trapped. This allows people ample time to escape and reach safety.
