A fire risk assessment has the following 5 purposes:

  1. Identify the hazards.
  2. Identify the people at risk.Evaluate.
  3. Remove or reduce the risks.
  4. Record the findings to prepare an emergency plan and provide appropriate training.
  5. To be reviewed and updated regularly. Ideally, every year or whenever a major change has occurred.

Without a fire risk assessment, you could find your business is not complying with the law. This means the responsible person (landlord, employee, owner, etc.) risks a fine or prosecution. It is necessary for any non-domestic property, like a workplace, public place, or property with multiple occupiers.

When a professional assessor comes to your premises, they will work with you to create a detailed risk assessment. They will also produce a document which will give guidance on the best practices you can put in place to protect everyone. With that information, you can then take action to control and manage the risks, and do everything possible to make your property safe.
